Netflix unveils trailer for Operation SafedSagarahead of August 7 premiere

Netflix on Monday unveiled the trailer of Operation SafedSagar, a military drama inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role during the 1999 Kargil War, with the series scheduled to premiere on August 7. Based on real events, the show highlights the untold story of the Golden Arrows Squadron, whose high-altitude mission during Operation SafedSagar became a defining chapter in India’s military history. Directed by Oni Sen and created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and KushalSrivastava, the series is produced by Matchbox Shots LLP and Feel Good Films. The cast includes Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, AbhayVerma, DiaMirza, PrajaktaKoli, AdilHussain, MihirAhuja, TaarukRaina, ArnavBhasin and Amrita Bagchi.

The makers said the series was developed through extensive research and consultations with Indian Air Force veterans and families connected to the operation. Filming took place at operational Air Force bases using real aircraft and infrastructure to recreate the high-altitude mission with authenticity. The story follows Wing Commander B.S. Dhanoa ‘Tony’, Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja and a team of young fighter pilots as they confront the challenges of one of the world’s highest air operations while also portraying the sacrifices made by their families. Netflix India Vice-President Content Monika Shergill described the project as the platform’s most ambitious production in India, crediting the Indian Air Force’s support and the contributions of Indian artists, technicians and visual effects teams. Director Oni Sen said the series aims to present the operation with historical accuracy while paying tribute to the courage and resilience of the personnel involved.

The release is expected to generate significant interest among viewers in Kolkata and eastern India, where patriotic dramas and military-themed content have consistently attracted strong audiences across streaming platforms. Industry observers believe the series could boost regional subscriber engagement, encourage conversations around India’s military history and strengthen Netflix’s position in the competitive over-the-top (OTT) entertainment market ahead of the Independence Day viewing season.
