Nestlé India’s Project Hilldaari, in collaboration with PLAN Foundation, Stree Mukti Sangathana, and Recity India Pvt Ltd, has developed inclusive waste management models in select Indian tourist cities over the past five years, currently operating in Ponda, Mussoorie, Mahabaleshwar, Munnar, Dalhousie, Darjeeling, and Palampur.
Project Hilldaari in its existing locations across India has diverted more than 28,000 MT of waste from landfill through source segregation. 80% of source segregation has been achieved across more than 20,000 residential and commercial waste collection points. Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and Managing Director, Nestlé India asserted, “I would like to congratulate all our partners, for making our vision a reality.”
Hilldaari believes that every member of the society can contribute towards making a positive change. These partnerships invoke a sense of solidarity and collective spirit among citizens. Project Hilldaari is a multi-collaborative initiative aiming to professionalize waste workers and promote waste segregation. Over 560 workers have been trained, provided with occupational ID, health insurance, and protective gear, and offered various benefits for their participation in behavior change interventions.
