Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has vehemently condemned the vandalism committed against the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru in Poilapool, Cachar district. He emphasized that this act is not just an assault on a monument but a profound disrespect to the legacy of Nehru, a pivotal figure in India’s independence and nation-building. Gogoi pointed out that while diverse political opinions exist, actions aimed at erasing the democratic history of India are utterly intolerable. He expressed alarm over the BJP government’s silence regarding this disgraceful incident, highlighting that India’s strength lies in its commitment to pluralism and democratic values, which must be vigorously protected. Furthermore, Gogoi urged for the swift identification and prosecution of the perpetrators involved in this vandalism, reaffirming that the citizens of Assam will not condone such actions that undermine their historical and cultural integrity.
