Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran in New Delhi on February 7 to discuss upcoming investments and projects in Assam. The discussions focused on key initiatives, including the much-anticipated semiconductor plant at Jagiroad. The hour-long meeting took place at Chandrasekaran’s Prithviraj Road residence, where CM Sarma highlighted Assam’s growing potential as an investment hub. He invited the Tata Chairman to the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, scheduled to be held in Guwahati on February 25-26.
Sharing details of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), Sarma expressed optimism about the Tata Group’s investments in Assam. “It was truly a pleasure to meet Shri N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of @TataCompanies, today in New Delhi. Our conversation about the group’s exciting investments in Assam was inspiring, and I’m eagerly looking forward to welcoming him at the #AdvantageAssam2 Summit!” he posted. The Tata Group has been expanding its footprint in Assam, with major projects in manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure development. The semiconductor plant at Jagiroad is one of the flagship investments expected to bolster the state’s industrial growth.
Meanwhile, CM Sarma also inaugurated the India-Japan Intellectual Conclave in Guwahati on February 6. Titled “Kizuna: Co-creating Ecosystems for Change – Technology, Education, and Logistics,” the two-day conclave, organized by Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan and India’s Ministry of External Affairs, has brought together policymakers, experts, and business leaders from both nations to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
