Narendra Modi In Silchar: Barak Valley Tipped as Future Logistics Hub of Northeast

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several development projects in Silchar, Assam, on March 14, emphasizing a sharp critique of the Indian National Congress, which he claimed is facing a decline in public support and may soon reach “a century of electoral defeats.” Speaking to a public gathering in Barak Valley, Modi contended that the people of Assam had already distanced themselves from Congress and that voters nationwide are following suit. He accused Congress leaders of resorting to desperate measures, such as a bizarre protest against an artificial intelligence summit, in a bid to discredit the event.

Modi outlined the Bharatiya Janata Party’s development agenda, focusing on uplifting marginalized communities and reframing border regions as vital to national progress. He launched the next phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme from Cachar district, underscoring significant welfare measures for tea garden communities, including land rights for tea garden families. Highlighting global instability, Modi assured that the government is dedicated to minimizing adverse effects on Indian citizens, while criticizing Congress for inciting panic during such turbulent times.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the Shillong-Silchar High-Speed Corridor, projected to enhance connectivity between Meghalaya and Assam and cut travel time significantly from Guwahati to Silchar. He also criticized Congress for its historical neglect of Barak Valley and confidently asserted the project as a part of India’s broader commitment to development, with Assam positioned to grow alongside the nation’s progress, as echoed by Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. The corridor project is anticipated to strengthen regional connectivity, spur economic growth, and enhance trade across Northeast India.
