Dr. Amit Chakraborty, Senior Surgical Head & Neck Cancer Oncologist at SSO Cancer Hospital, Mumbai, has launched specialised consultation services in Kolkata. The initiative will enable patients to access expert consultations, second opinions and treatment guidance locally, reducing the need for long-distance travel to Mumbai. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Chakraborty is known for handling complex head and neck cancer cases with a focus on surgical precision and patient-centric outcomes.
He holds an MBBS and MS from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Medical College, Mumbai, an MCh in Surgical Oncology from Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London. He is currently associated with leading Mumbai hospitals including SSO Cancer Hospital, Saifee Hospital, Global Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital and S. L. Raheja Hospital. The Kolkata OPD will provide evaluation and treatment planning for cancers of the oral cavity, tongue, throat, larynx, thyroid and related conditions, along with complex reconstructive procedures.
The introduction of visiting specialist oncology services is expected to strengthen Kolkata’s healthcare ecosystem, positioning the city as a growing hub for advanced cancer care in eastern India. Improved local access may reduce patient outflow to metro cities like Mumbai while boosting demand for specialised medical infrastructure. Dr. Chakraborty said, “Head and neck cancers account for nearly 30% of all cancers in India. Early diagnosis can improve survival outcomes by 80–90%. Regular consultations in Kolkata will help patients receive timely expert care.”
Consultations will be held at 16B, Sarat Bose Road, Flat No. 1B, 1st Floor, Ballygunge, Kolkata. The OPD will officially start on 28th March and will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Consultations will take place every fourth weekend of the month by prior appointment.
