House Speaker Biman Banerjee has selected Mukul Roy, who recently moved to the TMC, as the chairman of the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee.
Speaker Biman Banerjee nominated Mukul Roy, a senior TMC lawmaker who recently moved to the ruling camp in Bengal after winning the assembly elections on a BJP ticket, as the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee in the Assembly on Friday.
In protest of this decision, BJP MLAs, led by Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, staged a walkout in the Assembly. “The PAC chairman is chosen from the opposition party, according to convention. The speaker, on the other hand, defied tradition “Adhikari expressed his thoughts.
He also stated that he will meet with the Speaker and that if the situation is not handled promptly, he will take the case to court. “On July 16, the Speaker has summoned me for a hearing on Mukul Roy. I’ll move court if it takes too long.”
Roy joined the TMC last month after serving as a BJP MLA in Krishnanagar Uttar. He, on the other hand, refused to quit as an MLA despite the saffron party’s repeated requests. In June, the TMC leader was elected to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
According to Adhikari, an opposition MLA is typically nominated as the PAC chairman, but the TMC abused that system to appoint Roy as its chairman.
