MP Indra Hang Subba examines the NH-10 and highway construction and demands that Sikkim be completed on schedule

In a move to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and the timely completion of highway projects in Sikkim, Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) at its headquarters in New Delhi. The discussions primarily focused on the progress of works along NH-10 and other national highways across the state. The NHIDCL delegation included Manoj Kumar, Executive Director (Technical); U.J. Chamargore, Director (Technical); Ankush Mehta, General Manager; and Ashok Kumar Saha, Regional Officer (Sikkim), while Executive Director Jagdeep Singh of Siliguri joined via video conferencing. Officials highlighted the persistent challenges along NH-10, the key arterial road connecting Sikkim to the rest of India.

Frequent landslides and monsoon-related damages were cited as major obstacles disrupting traffic flow and compromising infrastructure stability. The Executive Director informed the MP that NHIDCL has finalized plans to reinforce five vulnerable sections of NH-10, particularly prone to landslides. Responding to the update, MP Subba urged NHIDCL to expedite repair and restoration works, setting a strict target for completion within six months, ahead of the next monsoon. He stressed the importance of coordination between NHIDCL, local authorities, and other agencies to prevent delays and ensure the safety of road users.

Officials also briefed the MP on a proposal to elevate the road level near Teesta, where recurring waterlogging has affected all-weather connectivity. Emphasizing the strategic, economic, and tourism significance of NH-10, MP Subba said the highway must remain operational at all times, reinforcing its role in Sikkim’s growth and national security. The meeting concluded with NHIDCL committing to expedite pending works and provide regular progress reports, reflecting a collaborative effort to enhance Sikkim’s highway infrastructure through innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.
