Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, has commenced his official visit to Latin America, starting in São Paulo, Brazil. His multi-nation tour will also include Uruguay, the Bahamas, Barbados, and Nicaragua, focusing on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
In São Paulo, the Minister interacted with the Indian diaspora, acknowledging their contribution to enhancing India-Brazil relations. Sharing his experience on social media platform X, he said, “Delighted to interact with the Indian community in São Paulo. Their efforts in fostering stronger ties between India and Brazil and expanding India’s presence in Latin America are commendable.”
The visit includes Margherita’s attendance at the swearing-in ceremony of Uruguay’s President-elect Yamandú Orsi. In the Bahamas, he will follow up on bilateral discussions initiated during the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana last year. His tour will conclude in Nicaragua, marking the first-ever ministerial visit from India’s Ministry of External Affairs to the Central American nation. From a business perspective, Latin America’s growing trade ties with India present opportunities for regions like Guwahati, particularly in textiles and exports. With increasing global outreach, local industries in Assam may find new avenues for investment and trade, aligning with India’s expanding footprint in the region.
