With persistent rainfall and flooding affecting several parts of Assam, vehicle owners are being advised to take extra precautions to protect their vehicles from water-related damage and avoid disruptions during the monsoon season. Insurance provider Tata AIG General Insurance on Tuesday urged motorists to avoid waterlogged roads, check weather and traffic conditions before travelling, maintain tyres and brakes, and ensure essential vehicle systems are in good working condition to minimise the risk of accidents and breakdowns.
The company said comprehensive motor insurance policies can provide financial protection against flood-related damages, while add-on covers such as Engine Secure, Zero Depreciation, Consumables Cover and Roadside Assistance can help motorists deal with unexpected situations during heavy rains. “Vehicle owners in Assam are facing challenges during the monsoon season, from navigating waterlogged streets to dealing with sudden breakdowns. These seasonal risks can disrupt daily life and lead to unexpected expenses,” said A. Kiran Kumar, Head of Motor Underwriting at Tata AIG General Insurance. He added that comprehensive insurance coverage can help policyholders stay better protected during adverse weather conditions.
The insurer also advised vehicle owners to inform their insurance company immediately after any incident, keep claim documents ready, and avoid restarting vehicles that stall in waterlogged areas. It cautioned against relying solely on third-party insurance for flood-related damage and emphasised regular vehicle maintenance. Tata AIG said its motor insurance offerings include engine protection, electric surge cover for electric vehicles, towing and roadside assistance, access to over 11,000 network garages, faster claims processing and round-the-clock customer support to help customers during emergencies.
