MLA Raj Kumari Thapa Promotes Maternal Care Facility in Yangang Constituency

A new Breastfeeding Corner was inaugurated at Ravangla Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sikkim’s 15-Rangang Yangang Constituency as part of an initiative aimed at promoting motherhood support and child welfare in the region.The facility was donated by Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and MLA of 15-Rangang Yangang Constituency, Raj Kumari Thapa. The Breastfeeding Corner has been set up to provide mothers visiting the health centre with a safe, comfortable and dignified space to breastfeed and care for their infants.The facility was inaugurated by a breastfeeding mother in the presence of members of the Zilla Panchayat from Rabong Samdung and staff members of Ravangla PHC.Speaking during the programme, Raj Kumari Thapa said the initiative was inspired by the vision of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who has been encouraging the establishment of Breastfeeding Corners across the state to support mothers and promote child health.

She said the initiative reflects respect for motherhood and concern for the healthy growth and well-being of children. Stressing the importance of breastfeeding, the Deputy Speaker said mother’s milk is essential for every child, especially during the first six months after birth.She also said society has a collective responsibility to ensure proper care, support and dignity for mothers and newborns.“With the inauguration of this facility, mothers visiting the PHC will have a comfortable and private place to care for their infants,” she said.

Officials informed that with the opening of the Breastfeeding Corner at Ravangla PHC, the 15-Rangang Yangang Constituency now has a total of three such facilities. The other two Breastfeeding Corners are located at Yangang Bazar and Yangang BAC.Raj Kumari Thapa also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for what she described as his people-centric approach and welfare-oriented vision for the state.
