The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was awarded the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) Award for its top-performing activities during the AKAM period. The recognition was based on the Ministry’s efforts to increase Indian diaspora participation in Mission-related endeavors and foster cultural ties with global partners.
The MEA celebrated Amrit Mahotsav with a global yoga celebration, including workshops and training sessions, focusing on the global recovery from the pandemic. Indian Missions collaborated with experienced trainers to promote a healthy lifestyle. The MEA also partnered with 75 institutes to share insights into Indian foreign policy with the youth, promoting the Videsh Niti Lecture Series, which educated students about international relations and inspired them to pursue careers in the Indian Foreign Services.
Indian Missions engaged the Indian diaspora in foreign countries through community events, such as tree plantations and sports competitions, during AKAM week. The MEA celebrated Amrit Mahotsav by lighting landmark monuments worldwide in the Indian tricolor, including the Sydney Opera House, Burj Khalifa, and Empire State Building. These initiatives showcasing India’s global image and enhancing its reputation as the best-performing Ministry during the AKAM period.
