Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are increasingly becoming a major public health issue in Assam, particularly for adults over 40. Studies indicate a rising risk of heart disease in urban areas, including hilly regions, even among individuals under 40. Medanta – The Medicity, India’s leading private hospital, is addressing this growing concern by expanding access to advanced cardiac care in Northeast India, specifically in Guwahati. Dr. Praveen Chandra, Chairman of Interventional Cardiology at Medanta, underscored the critical need for early diagnosis and management of complex heart conditions. Key risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) include high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, and unhealthy lifestyles. Valvular Heart Disease (VHD) disrupts heart valve function and can lead to serious complications if not treated. Dr. Chandra highlighted contemporary treatment advancements in CAD and VHD, such as minimally invasive surgeries and robotic-assisted procedures. He advocated for a preventive, technology-driven approach in heart care, combining medical expertise and community health initiatives. Medanta’s initiatives in Guwahati aim to enhance healthcare access for patients in the region, addressing the disparity in cardiac treatment availability.
