The Medicity, Gurgaon, in association with the Government of Nagaland and the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), has launched “A Guide to Better Health,” a comprehensive booklet promoting preventive care. The move illustrates a strategic shift in India’s healthcare economy, where prevention is being positioned as a cost-saving alternative to treatment.
The initiative, conceptualized by Nagaland Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and supported by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, was unveiled by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Over 200 legislators and senior officials received copies, with digital versions planned to ensure scalability and reduce dissemination costs. Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, stressed that lifestyle management and early screenings can reduce the nation’s long-term healthcare burden, improving productivity and lowering public health expenditure.
The economic impact of preventive health measures is becoming evident. Known as a hub for tea production and trade, the city’s workforce faces lifestyle and occupational health risks. By adopting preventive practices, industries can significantly cut absenteeism, maintain higher productivity, and reduce healthcare-related costs, aligning with broader economic efficiency goals. The initiative builds on Medanta’s MoU with the Nagaland government under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme and its recent Kohima medical camp, which benefitted over 400 people.
