Medanta expands robotic kidney transplant care access for Northeast patients

Medanta – The Medicityis expanding access to advanced kidney transplant care through its minimally invasive robotic surgery programme, offering patients from Guwahati and the Northeast consultation and referral options to its Gurugram hospital.

More than 2 lakh people in India are estimated to require kidney transplants, but only around 13,600 procedures were performed in 2023, according to a study published in the Indian Journal of Nephrology. With living donors accounting for most transplants, minimally invasive donor surgery remains an important consideration.

Dr. Prasun Ghosh, Chairman of Urology, Robotic Surgery and Kidney Transplant at Medanta Gurugram, said robotic technology enables complex procedures through smaller incisions, with potential benefits including reduced blood loss, less post-operative pain and faster recovery.

The programme is supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising specialists in nephrology, anaesthesia, pathology, intensive care and transplant surgery. Lifelong monitoring, prescribed immunosuppressive medication and regular follow-ups remain essential after transplantation.

In Guwahati and wider Northeast, Medanta Mediclinic Guwahati provides a local point of contact for specialist consultations and referrals. Dr. Ghosh will be available on October 31 at Medanta Mediclinic Guwahati, Ambika Shrine, Beltola–Basistha Road, Dispur. Appointments can be booked at +91 8826312002.

Medanta has also launched a dedicated Northeast helpline, +91 8904395588, available from 8 am to 8 pm in Assamese, Bengali, Nagamese, English and Hindi.
