The MATECIA Exhibition—Materials & Products for Construction, Interiors & Architecture—held alongside the Surfaces Reporter Architecture Event, concluded a successful three-day run at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan here on February 1. The event brought together architects, interior designers, developers, and building material manufacturers, creating a platform for networking, product showcases, and industry interaction focused on East and Northeast India. The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of industry leaders and senior architects, with Ashish Vidyarthi, National Award–winning actor and Founder of Ashish Vidyarthi & Associates, attending as chief guest. Day two featured a keynote address by Keshav Bhajanka, Executive Director of Century Ply, while noted architect Dulal Mukherjee was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Surfaces Reporter Magazine.
Spread across more than 1.5 lakh sq ft, the event showcased over 100 interior and surface brands and attracted an estimated 14,000–16,000 visitors from over 100 towns across West Bengal, the Northeast, and neighbouring eastern states.
Kolkata’s central location, improving real estate activity, and rising demand for organised building materials are positioning the city as a key sourcing and networking hub for the eastern region. The strong footfall and dealer participation reflected growing confidence in Kolkata’s design and construction market, particularly as a gateway to the Northeast.
Highlighting the event’s impact, Verticaa Dvivedi, Director of the Surfaces Reporter Architecture Event, said the sustained engagement and regional participation underscored the maturity of the design ecosystem in East and Northeast India.
