Manipur violence: talks held for security strengthen

Amidst Manipur violence, a meeting was held between Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and Assam Rifles Chief Lieutenant General P.C. Nair for security situation in the violence hit state, Manipur.

According to the sources, allegation was made from BJP legislators and Meitei civil society organizations that the Assam Rifles units stationed in Manipur were biased towards one community.

Additionally, Assam Rifles are administratively under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and operationally controlled by the Indian Army.

Earlier, the Central forces and the State Police, with the Manipur Police registered First Information Report (FIR) against Assam Rifles personnel for allegedly obstructing them in performing their duty.
