Man stabs wife to death with scissors in front of minor kids

In a horrifying incident, a 43-year-old man allegedly murdered his 40-year-old wife by stabbing her multiple times with scissors at their residence in New Ashok Nagar locality of Punjab’s Ludhiana.

The incident took place within the territorial limits of Salem Tabri Police Station. The accused identified as Avtar Singh, a carpenter by profession, stabbed his wife Jasveer Kaur in neck, chest and stomach with scissors and fled the spot. Then, their two sons, aged six and seventeen, raised the alarm, following which the neighbours arrived at their house and called the police.

Salem Tabri Police Station SHO Gopal Krishan said that the accused was addicted to liquor and this led to frequent arguments between him and his now-deceased wife. Reportedly, he was also suspicious of his wife having an extramarital affair. “After losing temper, he would ask her to leave the house and live with her paramour”, said a police official.

The couple’s teenaged son said that his father and mother fought over petty issues. He added that one such fight flared up between them after his father came back home from work and asked for dinner on Monday night.

Jasveer asked Avtar to wait for some time as the dinner wasn’t ready by then. This led to an argument between the two. The child said, “My father then picked up scissors kept on a table and stabbed mother in the stomach.” Moreover, when he rushed to save his mother, Avtar told him to stay away otherwise he would kill him as well. Both the children got scared and stood there watching their mother getting fatally stabbed by scissors. At around 9:30 pm, Avatar fled the spot and then the terrified children called the neighbours. Jasveer was still breathing when the neighbours arrived there. They rushed her to a hospital where she died on Tuesday morning.
