Mamata calls for calm as Bengali towns affected by violence return to normalcy

After post-Ram Navami violence in two towns in the densely populated Hooghly district, Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday made an appeal for calm and urged her “Hindu brothers” to guarantee that minorities are protected.
Banerjee, who was addressing at a rally in East Mednipur’s Khejuri district, alleged that there was a deliberate attempt to “incite violence and cause tention” by staging processions days after the Lord Ram celebration had concluded.
