Mamata Banerjee signals AITC’s expansion push across key Assam regions

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has taken a clear step towards expanding its presence in Assam by releasing its first list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections. The announcement signals the party’s intent to play a bigger role in the state’s political space.The list was prepared under the guidance of party chief Mamata Banerjee and includes candidates from different parts of Assam, covering Lower Assam, North Bank, Upper Assam and Barak Valley. The selection shows an effort to reach different communities and regions.

In Lower Assam, the party has named Udangsri Narzary from Baokhungri, Mominur Islam from Bilasipara, Arif Akhtar Ahmed from Jaleswar and Kaushik Ranjan Das from Abhayapuri. Kalyani Kalita will contest from Bajali, while Dulu Ahmed has been fielded from Chamaria. From the Boko-Chaygaon (ST) seat, Bhoglal Rabha has been selected. The party has also given tickets to Bikash Nath Yogi from Palasbari, Amirul Islam from Barkhetri and Rajan Chouhan from Goreswar.

In the North Bank and eastern Assam region, Hare Krishna Deka has been named from Mangaldai and Narendra Kumar Paw from the ST-reserved Dhemaji constituency.In Upper Assam, the party has chosen Jiten Nag from Digboi and Dilip Moran from Makum in Tinsukia district.For Barak Valley, the party has announced Tapas Das from Udharbond, Fazlur Rahman Laskar from Katigorah and Shahajahan Laskar from Sonai. The selection in this region shows the party’s focus on strengthening its base in the Bengali-speaking areas.
