Malabar Gold & Diamonds, India’s leading jewellery retailer and the world’s fifth largest, has announced the global expansion of its flagship Hunger Free World initiative to Ethiopia. Following successful implementations in India and Zambia, the program aims to provide daily meals and educational support to children, targeting 10,000 students in Ethiopia by 2026 with an investment of USD 864,000.
The announcement was made at the Malabar International Hub in Dubai Gold Souq, where Vice Chairman Abdul Salam K.P handed over the Letter of Intent to H.E. Asmelash Bekele, Consul General of Ethiopia in Dubai. “Extending this program to Ethiopia is a step toward our mission of eradicating hunger and promoting educational equity globally,” said Mr. Salam. The initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on zero hunger, quality education, and community partnerships.
Where Malabar Gold & Diamonds has a significant presence, the program has been well-received. Local management highlighted that over 5,000 meals are currently provided daily to children across Assam, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to social welfare in the region. Market observers note that Malabar’s CSR efforts strengthen its brand loyalty and community engagement, positively influencing sales and customer trust. With over 410 showrooms across 14 countries, Malabar continues to redefine corporate social responsibility by investing 5% of net profits in ESG initiatives, demonstrating a model for global impact rooted in Indian enterprise.
