MakeMyTrip has launched Price Drop Protection, a new feature that refunds travellers the difference if their booked flight fare drops before departure. The feature is aimed at addressing fare uncertainty and encouraging travellers to book flights earlier rather than repeatedly tracking prices and delaying reservations.
Available on domestic and international, one-way and round-trip flights, the feature can be opted for during booking. It starts at Rs 229 per person for domestic flights and Rs 349 for international flights. The maximum refund is capped at Rs 2,500 per person for domestic flights and Rs 3,000 for international flights.
Price Drop Protection covers fare movements from the time of booking until six hours before departure. If a fare falls during this period, MakeMyTrip notifies the traveller and credits the eligible refund to the original payment method. The company said the feature has gained traction during its testing phase, with a portion of users seeing price drops on both domestic and international bookings.
In Kolkata, the feature could offer added flexibility to travellers planning domestic and international journeys, particularly as passengers often compare fares before committing to bookings. The protection may encourage more Kolkata-based travellers to secure tickets earlier while reducing concerns over subsequent fare reductions.
Raj Rishi Singh, COO, Flights, Corporate, GCC and Marketing, MakeMyTrip, said the feature allows travellers to book when convenient while gaining protection against subsequent fare declines.
The offering joins MakeMyTrip’s existing flight assurance products, including Zero Cancellation and Free Date Change.
