Mahinagar rooftop solar system generates 170 units in 27 days

A 2 kW rooftop solar system installed by Innovel Solar at the residence of Tustapada Naskar in Mahinagar has generated 170 units of electricity in 27 days, highlighting the potential of residential solar power to reduce household electricity expenses.

Commissioned on September 2, the grid-tied installation underwent meter verification on September 29. Based on its initial performance, the system is expected to help the household save around ₹21,000 annually, depending on seasonal sunlight, consumption patterns and maintenance.

The installation was highlighted by the South Circle of the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) during a review presentation on the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

As part of the initiative, Canara Bank’s Mahinagar branch disbursed ₹78,000 towards the installation. Branch manager Mitra Das said customers with a sound CIBIL record could seek bank assistance for rooftop solar projects. She added that local residents were increasingly approaching the branch to explore the scheme’s benefits.

Naskar said high summer electricity bills had been a persistent concern and that solar power had brought relief to the household.

Innovel Solar CEO Partha P Chatterjee emphasised the importance of proper site assessment, panel orientation, reliable inverters and safe electrical design to ensure long-term generation.

The project underscores the potential of rooftop solar to lower household energy costs while supporting wider clean energy adoption.
