The Assam government has instructed all District Commissioners to set and enforce prices for meat, eggs, milk, and dairy goods in their respective districts before to the Uruka feast and Magh Bihu celebrations. The goal of the order is to shield customers from being taken advantage of during the holiday season and to stop fraudulent price increases. The Assam Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department issued an order stating that “all DCs are directed to take urgent action fix the prices of meat, egg, milk, and dairy products in their respective districts in the event of the upcoming Magh Bihu in the state.”
The instruction said that “you are further requested to set up monitoring teams in your respective district to monitor whether vendors are selling meat, eggs, milk, and dairy products as per the prices fixed.” Krishnendu Paul, the Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary in Assam, warned traders on Saturday not to raise fish and meat prices arbitrarily on the eve of the harvest festival, Uruka (January 13). The Minister issued a warning that any effort to take advantage of customers by artificially raising prices will result in severe penalties.Paul stated that merchants must rigorously follow the tariffs set by the individual DCs while speaking at a seminar in Guwahati.
“During the holiday season, fish and meat prices cannot be raised arbitrarily. “Any departure from the government-approved rates will not be accepted,” he said.Additionally, the Minister stated that the Fishery Department and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department will be forming a Special Task Force (STF). To make sure that customers are not overcharged, the STF will continue to be active throughout Uruka and undertake thorough inspections of all fish and meat markets.
