Lockdown will not be extended in Delhi, says, health minister

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has reiterated that the lockdown will not be extended in the national capital despite spiking COVID-19 cases. The statement from the State health minister has come in the backdrop of several speculations that the govt will extend the lockdown as the number of cases close in on 35,000. 

He further questioned MCD’s narrative that Delhi’s official COVID-19 death toll was only half of the number of people who have died in the city because of the illness. “Why don’t they send those details to us? Names, age and reports… all details are needed. Ask them for a list of these numbers along with the (COVID19) positive reports of those people,” the minister said

Delhi’s official figures for COVID-19 infected state that 34,687 people in the city have been infected while over 1,000 have died. Delhi has 20,871 active coronavirus cases and 12,731 people in the national capital have recovered after contracting the virus. 

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who himself had to undergo a coronavirus test after he complained of fever, in a press conference on Wednesday said that Delhi is likely to have about 500,000 cases by end July.
