Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu chaired a consultative meeting with officers and officials from Siang and Upper Siang districts to discuss the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project and the technical and local issues associated with the development initiative.The meeting focused on understanding the proposed project in greater detail, including its technical aspects and its significance for the state. Discussions also covered concerns and apprehensions that may exist among communities in the affected and surrounding areas.
During the interaction, Khandu said tribal officers and officials have a close connection with their respective communities and are familiar with the aspirations, sentiments and concerns of local people.He said their understanding of the communities would be important as the government considers development initiatives such as the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of taking local perspectives into account while discussing the proposed project. The consultation provided an opportunity for officials from Siang and Upper Siang to share their understanding of issues concerning communities that could be affected by or located near the proposed development.
The discussions examined various technical aspects of the project, while also considering questions raised by or likely to arise among local communities. The meeting comes as the state continues consultations on the proposed multipurpose project, with the government seeking inputs from officials who have direct knowledge of the areas and communities concerned.
