Light Rain, Snow Likely in Mangan; No Weather Warning Issued

The Meteorological Centre in Gangtok has released its weekly weather update along with a two-week forecast for Sikkim. The department said that most parts of the state will experience largely dry weather conditions in the coming days. However, light rainfall and snowfall are expected in isolated areas of Mangan district. Officials said that a cyclonic circulation formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal on February 13 and 14. The system extended up to 1.5 km above mean sea level before weakening on February 15. The weekly review also examined surface data, upper air charts and satellite observations recorded on February 19. The department shared rainfall figures from different districts over the past 24 hours and noted the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at key stations. Minimum temperatures were documented at Gangtok, Tadong and Pakyong along with rainfall measurements from across the state.

According to the outlook for February 20 to 26, weather conditions are expected to stay mostly dry across Sikkim. During the second week, from February 27 to March 5, daytime temperatures may remain normal or slightly above normal. Night temperatures are likely to stay within the usual range. Rainfall during this period is expected to be near normal.The seven-day district forecast indicates that light rain and snowfall at higher elevations may occur at one or two places in Mangan on the first day. The other districts;  Gangtok, Gyalshing, Namchi, Pakyong and Soreng are expected to remain dry. Dry weather is likely across all six districts on the second day. For the next five days, isolated light rain and snowfall may again affect higher reaches of Mangan, while the rest of the districts are expected to remain mainly dry.

On the sixth day, light rain and snowfall at higher altitudes may occur in Mangan and Pakyong at isolated locations. The remaining districts are likely to experience dry conditions. By the seventh day, dry weather is expected across the entire state.The Meteorological Centre has not issued any weather warning for Sikkim for the next seven days. The next weekly weather bulletin will be released on February 26, 2026.
