Light Rain Likely in Guwahati as IMD Reports Low Rainfall Activity Across Kamrup Region

India Meteorological Department on Monday said Guwahati and nearby areas are likely to witness generally cloudy skies with chances of light rain over the next few hours. According to a nowcast issued at 7 am by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, rainfall activity during the three-hour period ending at 5:30 am remained low across most parts of Kamrup Metro and Kamrup districts. Among the observation stations, Sualkuchi recorded the highest rainfall at 1.0 mm during the period.Downtown University and Guwahati Rupnagar recorded 0.5 mm rainfall each, while Mirza Circle Office also registered 0.5 mm rainfall.

The weather department also shared cumulative rainfall data recorded since 8:30 am on May 17. Boko AEGCL station received the highest rainfall at 2.5 mm during the period. Guwahati Airport and Mirza Circle Office recorded 2.0 mm rainfall each. Several stations, including Chandrapur, Hangrabari, Kalakshetra, Dakhingaon ASDMA and Homeguard, reported no rainfall accumulation during the observation period. The IMD stated that “generally cloudy sky with light rain likely” conditions are expected in and around Guwahati during the next three hours. The probability of rainfall has been estimated between 26 and 50 per cent.

Officials said the latest satellite imagery captured by INSAT-3DR also showed cloud activity over several parts of the northeastern region during the early morning hours. The weather bulletin was issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, functioning under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.
