The eviction drive started in Assam from May, 2021 last year on the orders of Chief Minister Himanta Biwa Sharma.
On Tuesday, a 500-hectare land eviction drive was launched in Lakhimpur district, reportedly affecting more than 100 families.
Lakhimpur Superintendent of Police Vedanta Madhav Rajkhwa said 600 personnel of the state police and CRPF have been deployed for the exercise and a mock drill was conducted by the force on Sunday.
According to sources, only 29 hectares out of 2,560.25 hectares of Pava reserved forest is currently free of any encroachment.
10,500 hectares of land in Adhasona and Mahajhuli villages will be cleared in the first phase in January.
