Due to the ongoing violence in Manipur since May 3, Assam has led hands for safety of the state’s people by deploying paramilitary forces in the state. Recently, a decision was made to withdraw Assam Rifles from the Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
The Kuki-Zo women in Kangpokpi town made late-night protest across all localities in the town through PA systems calling their localities to come and show resentment of the plan to withdraw the Assam Rifles from the buffer zones in Kangpokpi district.
During the protest, the Kuki-Zo womenfolk chanted, “Assam Rifles Don’t Leave Us”, “Assam Rifles We Need You”, and “Assam Rifles Zindabad”.
Reports also says that, The Kuki-Zo women were also seen falling on the feet of the Commanding Officer of the 22 Assam Rifles, weeping, crying, and pleading not to leave them.
The Centre has now decided to hold back the decision to withdraw the Assam Rifles.
Further, the Kuki-Zo women’s protest ended in a thanking note as they expressed sincere gratitude to the Centre after it held back the withdrawal plan.
