Kolkata Metro Railway will introduce longer operating hours and additional train services on the Blue and Green corridors on a trial basis from July 27.
From Monday to Saturday, the first trains on both lines will depart at 6 am, replacing the current timings of 6.50 am on the Blue Line and 6.39 am on the Green Line. The last trains will leave at 10.30 pm, extending services beyond the existing closing times of 9.44 pm on the Blue Line and 10.05 pm on the Green Line.
According to Metro Railway, the revised schedule is intended to make commuting more convenient, especially during busy travel hours, while reducing passenger waiting times.
The frequency of services will also increase. On weekdays, the Blue Line will operate 272 trains, up from 260, while the Green Line will run 236 services, compared with the current 228. Saturdays will see 258 services on the Blue Line and 212 on the Green Line, with a slight increase in Sunday operations as well.
Sunday schedules will continue to begin at 9 am, but train services will now remain available until 10.30 pm on both corridors.
Metro Railway said the revised timetable will be implemented on an experimental basis and reviewed before deciding whether to make the changes permanent.
