India’s leading building materials exhibition, MATECIA Exhibition, in collaboration with SURFACES REPORTER, was formally inaugurated on Thursday at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (BBMP), Kolkata, marking the launch of the largest architecture, interiors and building materials platform for East and Northeast India.
The three-day event, scheduled from January 30 to February 1, 2026, was inaugurated in the presence of industry leaders, senior architects and policymakers. National Award–winning actor and motivational speaker Ashish Vidyarthi attended as the chief guest. The inaugural ceremony included traditional lamp lighting and addresses by key industry representatives from plywood, laminates and building materials sectors, along with officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), East Zone.
The event has brought together over 150 architecture and design firms, interior designers, developers, brands and channel partners from more than 12 eastern and northeastern states. Spread across over 1.5 lakh square feet, it features 100-plus interior and surface brands and represents more than 500 landmark projects from the region. An estimated 14,000 to 16,000 visitors from over 100 towns and cities are expected to attend. A major highlight, Surfaces Reporter Salutes – Architecture & Design Honours, scheduled for January 31, will recognise around 100 leading architects and interior designers from East and Northeast India, reinforcing the region’s growing presence on India’s architectural map.
