Kolkata court on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against Bollywood actress Zareen Khan in a cheating case. The case was registered against her in 2018. The investigating officer of the case filed a chargesheet against the actress in the Sealdah court in Kolkata.
However, Zareen Khan did not apply for bail or appear in court. After her repeated absences, the court issued an arrest warrant.
When asked about the arrest warrant, Zareen Khan said, she has no clarity on the matter. “I am sure there is no truth to this. I am also surprised and am checking with my lawyer. Only then can I give you some clarity. In the meantime, you can talk to my PR,” she said.
Zareen Khan was scheduled to perform at a Durga Puja event in Kolkata in 2018. However, even as the organizers awaited her arrival, she did not appear.
According to the police, the organizers filed a written complaint of cheating against a Bollywood actor and her manager. An FIR was registered against both of them and they were asked to appear for questioning.
Zareen Khan then appeared for questioning and claimed to have been misled by the organizers. She also alleged that she was told by the organizers that heavyweight ministers including the Chief Minister of Bengal would attend the event.
However, her team later found out that it was a small-scale incident in north Kolkata. She also said that there was a miscommunication about flight tickets and other accommodations, after which she had to skip the show.
Zareen Khan also filed a case against the organizers of the event in a local court, police sources said. After the investigation, a charge sheet was filed against her and her manager. Although her manager appeared in court and sought bail, the actor neither sought bail nor appeared in court.
