A malaria outbreak in Kokrajhar district has led to a sharp rise in cases, with 2,096 infections reported by November 25, a dramatic increase from just 256 cases earlier in 2023. The disease has claimed five lives in the past week, including that of a four-year-old girl, sparking serious public health concerns. In response to the crisis, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government, led by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, has taken swift action. Boro personally visited severely affected areas like Lungchung to assess the situation and assure residents of immediate intervention.
The BTC has established seven health camps across six FRC villages to provide essential healthcare services and treatment to the affected population. Accompanying Boro during his visit were MLA Lawrence Islary, Executive Member Wilson Hasda, and senior health officials. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has also dispatched a team of expert medical professionals from Guwahati to bolster the district’s response to the outbreak.
Authorities are working around the clock to contain the disease’s spread and mitigate its impact. The BTC government emphasized that targeted remedial measures are underway to ensure better healthcare for affected communities and prevent further loss of life.
