KMPL partners with Tata Memorial’s ACTREC to bring advanced cancer treatment to Navi Mumbai

Kotak Mahindra Prime Limited (KMPL) has partnered with Tata Memorial Centre’s ACTREC to bring advanced cancer treatment technology to the Proton Therapy Centre in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The collaboration includes installation of the SDX® Voluntary Breath Hold System, a specialised tool that helps patients control their breathing during radiation therapy so that radiation targets the tumour more accurately.

According to ACTREC, the system will particularly benefit patients with lung, liver, pancreas and breast cancers, where breathing movement can cause tumours to shift. Doctors say this improves precision, protects healthy organs and strengthens treatment outcomes. The SDX® system also enables proton-based SBRT, a high-dose and high-precision treatment that can improve survival and reduce side effects.ACTREC treats over 35,000 patients every year, and officials highlighted that nearly 70–80 per cent come from economically weaker backgrounds. With this partnership, advanced treatment becomes accessible for patients who may otherwise not be able to afford such technology.

Senior radiation experts at ACTREC described the technology as a “game-changer” in motion-managed radiation. Dr Rahul Krishnatry said the upgrade offers new options for people with liver and pancreas tumours that move significantly during breathing.KMPL officials said the initiative is part of the company’s CSR commitment in healthcare. The company said it aims to support infrastructure upgrades and access to modern cancer care facilities, ensuring equal and timely treatment. For Kolkata, which sends a large number of cancer patients to Mumbai and South India for specialised treatment, the partnership marks a step towards making world-class proton therapy more accessible to families from eastern India, especially for motion-sensitive cancers.
