Kerala launches nationwide tourism campaign to boost summer footfall

Kerala Tourism is set to launch an all-India campaign to attract domestic tourists ahead of the summer holidays, focusing on families and school vacationers, announced Kerala’s Tourism Minister Shri P.A. Mohamed Riyas. This year’s campaign will spotlight North Kerala’s emerging destinations such as Wayanad, Bekal, Kannur, and Kozhikode, along with lesser-known locales that have seen significant infrastructure upgrades. “Domestic tourists have always been integral to Kerala’s tourism industry. Our efforts aim to establish Kerala as a year-round experiential destination,” said Shri Riyas.

New attractions, including heli-tourism and a sea-plane initiative, will enhance connectivity, while Kerala’s hallmark experiences—beaches, hill stations, backwaters, and houseboats—will continue to charm visitors. The state is also positioning itself as a prime hub for Destination Weddings and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, drawing both domestic and international interest.

With Bengal’s travelers showing a growing interest in offbeat destinations, Kerala’s campaign is expected to resonate well in Kolkata, a key domestic tourism market. The city’s travel agencies report an increasing demand for family vacations to Kerala, particularly for its backwater experiences and wellness retreats. Tour operators anticipate a rise in bookings as summer approaches, aligning with Kerala’s robust B2B roadshow strategy across India. Having surpassed pre-pandemic domestic tourist numbers, Kerala Tourism is preparing for a surge in summer footfall through trade networking events and major travel fairs, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.
