Two agri-entrepreneurs from the Kaziranga landscape, Neelam Dutta and Roopjyoti Gogoi, were awarded the Assam Green Ambassador Awards 2025 for their significant contributions to biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, and community-led environmental stewardship. The awards were presented at the Assam LiFE for Nature Summit, organized by CMS VATAVARAN in collaboration with several environmental organizations, including the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and UN Environment Programme (UNEP) India.
The Assam Green Ambassador Awards recognize individuals who have dedicated at least five years to environmental and conservation efforts, with awardees selected for their documented long-term impact in areas such as biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable farming. Neelam Dutta, a pioneer in organic agriculture, was honored for reviving indigenous seed varieties and empowering small farmers through her initiative, Pabhoi Greens, which promotes organic farming and seed conservation, thereby enhancing ecological systems and rural livelihoods.
Roopjyoti Gogoi was recognized for her innovative approach to upcycling plastic waste into eco-friendly products, creating sustainable livelihoods for local women while combating plastic pollution in the Kaziranga area. Her work promotes environmental awareness and community resilience in alignment with conservation goals. A Special Jury Mention was also awarded to Dr. Oinam Sunanda Devi for her contributions to biodiversity conservation and community engagement.
The summit convened various stakeholders, including policymakers and environmental experts, to advance Assam’s vision for climate resilience and regenerative development. It aims to produce a White Paper on Assam’s LiFE and Nature Strategy, detailing actionable recommendations for sustainable, community-driven development in the state.
