Karbi Anglong shuts down Eradigholpani village due to an outbreak of ASF

Assam’s government has formally designated Eradigholpani village, located in the Karbi Anglong district’s Howraghat Development Block, as the epicenter of an epidemic of African Swine Fever (ASF). Nirola Phangchopi, ACS, the District Magistrate of Karbi Anglong, issued prohibitory measures to prevent, control, and eradicate ASF in the area with immediate effect in an effort to slow the development of this extremely contagious disease. All settlements within 10 kilometers of Eradigholpani village are under the Surveillance Zone, while the area within one kilometer is known as the Infected Zone.

Transportation of live pigs, pork, or pork products into or out of the Infected Zone is strictly prohibited as part of the stringent measures implemented to limit the outbreak. Until further notice, pig-related fairs, animal markets, and exhibitions have been outlawed. Pig carcasses cannot be disposed of in public areas or water bodies to avoid contaminating the environment. Officials from the veterinary, agriculture, and related departments, as well as local authorities such as municipal and rural bodies, have been instructed to strictly enforce these procedures.

All pigs will be closely observed in the Surveillance Zone, which includes serological, virological, and clinical surveillance. To maintain increased vigilance, the Forest Department will coordinate efforts to provide special attention to domestic pig populations in close proximity to forest areas. The District Magistrate has issued a warning, stating that strict legal action under applicable legislation will follow any disobedience of these prohibitory orders. In order to contain the epidemic and safeguard the cattle in the area, the administration asked all citizens and interested parties to work together completely.
