Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, alongside Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma, launched the North East Apprenticeship Pilot Scheme aimed at creating more job-ready youth across the region. The ₹43.94 crore program will benefit over 26,000 apprentices with an additional ₹1,500 monthly stipend, on top of the existing National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) benefits.
Designed to connect young people with industry opportunities, the scheme particularly encourages women’s participation and supports mobility across states, ensuring no barrier in accessing jobs. Chaudhary highlighted this as a crucial step in building a skilled workforce aligned with modern industry needs, while Lalduhoma praised the initiative for empowering youth with practical skills.
The launch also included a partnership between NSDC and Welspun Living Ltd to train youth in textiles, along with a ₹60,000 crore ITI upgrade plan to modernize training infrastructure across India.
