International Exposure as Japanese Coaches Arrive to Train Assam Athletes

Under a groundbreaking collaboration between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Department, a strategic initiative aims to uplift the sporting landscape of Assam through the engagement of five Japanese coaches who will provide professional training to emerging athletes over two years. This collaboration spans multiple sports disciplines including volleyball, basketball, swimming, football, and athletics, marking a significant first in international sports cooperation for the region. An official source emphasized that this initiative represents a remarkable milestone on a global scale, highlighting JICA’s continuous commitment to enhancing India’s sports ecosystem. In the framework of this program, JICA has already partnered with Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU) to conduct a specialized workshop—“Cultivating Future Coach Developers: Enabling Athletes as Decision Makers”—held in Guwahati from December 9 to 13, 2025. This initiative is designed not only to introduce modern coaching practices but also to establish structured pathways for the development of sports in India, paving the way for future growth and success in athletic performance.
