Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra will see their flows reduced as glaciers recede

Considering the importance of the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra rivers to India, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres issued a warning that as glaciers and ice sheets retreat over the ensuing decades owing to global warming, river flows may be reduced.
They shaped the landmasses we now call home over many years. 10% of the planet is now covered by them. The water towers of the planet are glaciers “In his remarks at a gathering for the International Year of Glaciers’ Protection on Wednesday, Guterres stated.
Guterres expressed alarm that “melting glaciers are the canary in the coalmine” and that human activity is pushing the planet’s temperature to perilous new heights.
