The 2026 Chemjong Literary Award will be conferred on noted Limboo writer Indra Kumar Limboo (Pokhim) of Sakyong, near Geyzing, in recognition of his long and dedicated contribution to Limboo literature. The award is considered one of the most respected honours in the Limboo literary world. Indra Kumar Limboo is a well-known novelist, poet and lyricist who has been closely associated with the Limboo literary movement for several decades. Through his writings and creative work, he has played an important role in the development, growth and promotion of the Limboo language. His work has helped preserve linguistic identity while encouraging creative expression among younger writers.

The award will be presented on January 1, 2026, during the 122nd birth anniversary of eminent Limboo scholar and linguist Iman Singh Chemjong, in whose memory the Chemjong Literary Award was instituted. The annual birth anniversary programme is organised by Yakthung Sapsok Saplon Chumbho Sukhim (YSSCS). Along with the main literary honour, the 2026 Chemjong Special Award will be conferred on senior politician Ashok Kumar Tshong of Gangtok. The special award recognises his contributions towards the preservation and upliftment of Limboo language, literature and culture. A former legislator, Tshong is known for his role in Sikkim’s historic political movements, including the 1973 agitation, and for consistently representing the interests of the Limboo/Tsong community.

YSSCS president Raju Limboo said the awardees were selected by a jury comprising senior and respected Limboo literary figures. He said the honours recognise years of selfless service towards promoting Limboo language, culture, traditions and the wider community.
