IndiaSkills 2025–26 North East regional competition begins at Gauhati University

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will organise the North East Regional Competition of IndiaSkills 2025–26 at Gauhati University from January 19 to 22, marking a major step in strengthening skill development in the region. This is the first time a dedicated IndiaSkills regional competition is being held exclusively for the North Eastern states, with participation from all eight states.

The competition will be inaugurated on January 19 by Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The National Skill Development Corporation is the knowledge partner and implementing agency for the IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26. Youth participants will compete across 26 skill categories, showcasing vocational talent on a national platform.

Addressing a pre-event press conference, Joint Secretary Hena Usman said the regional competition reflects a focused effort to expand India’s skilling framework in emerging regions. IndiaSkills, the country’s premier skill competition, aims to identify and nurture top vocational talent and prepare candidates for national and international platforms.

The opening ceremony will be held at the B.K.B Auditorium, followed by a familiarisation programme. Winners from the regional event will advance to the national stage.

In Guwahati, the event is expected to give a boost to local businesses, including hotels, transport services and small vendors, as participants, officials and visitors gather in the city. Traders see the competition as an opportunity to highlight Guwahati’s growing role as an educational and skill-development hub for the North East.
