The Hotel Association of India (HAI) has called for policy reforms, infrastructure support and stronger government-industry collaboration to unlock the potential of India’s hospitality sector and support the country’s Vision 2047. The call was made at the 7th HAI Hoteliers’ Conclave, inaugurated by Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at Taj Palace, New Delhi.
Held under the theme ‘Re-Engineering Hospitality’, the conclave focused on investment, infrastructure, employment, destination development, technology, sustainability, talent and MICE tourism. HAI also welcomed the Ministry of Tourism and NITI Aayog’s focus on hospitality deregulation and reiterated demands for infrastructure status, development of new destinations, industry incentives and ease of doing business.
Shekhawat said India recorded more than 400 crore domestic tourist visits in 2024 and has significant potential for tourism-led growth as the sector moves towards experience-based travel.
HAI President KB Kachru said India’s approximately 225,000 hotel rooms could generate jobs, attract investment and foreign exchange, stressing the need to move from policy intent to measurable execution.
For Kolkata, the discussions hold significance as the city’s hospitality market is closely linked to business travel, cultural tourism, weddings and MICE activity. Improved connectivity, destination development and investment could further strengthen Kolkata’s position as an eastern India tourism and business hub.
The conclave was attended by more than 300 representatives from hotel chains, industry bodies and allied sectors.
