Indian Oil Corporation Limited coordination restores LPG supply; ministry doubles 5kg cylinder support for vulnerable groups

The Sikkim government has announced that the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been fully restored across the state, bringing relief to households after a recent disruption. In an official statement issued on April 9, the state’s Food and Civil Supplies Department said that LPG availability has returned to 100 per cent of pre-crisis levels. The restoration ensures that consumers can now access cooking gas cylinders without difficulty in all districts.Earlier, supplies had dropped to around 80 per cent after Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) reduced distribution due to a nationwide shortage. The shortage was linked to disruptions in global supply chains amid the ongoing West Asia crisis, which affected fuel availability across several regions.

Officials said the situation improved following coordinated efforts between the state government and oil marketing companies. “Through joint efforts, LPG supply to the state has now been fully restored,” the department stated. With the return to normal supply levels, authorities expect smoother distribution and better availability of cylinders in both urban and rural areas. The government has also said it will continue to closely monitor the supply chain to ensure that distribution remains stable in the coming days.

In addition, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has taken steps to support vulnerable groups. The ministry has doubled the supply of 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders, mainly for migrant labourers in the state. This move is expected to provide additional support and reduce dependence on other fuels.
