Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on January 11 expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned singer and actor Prashant Tamang, describing him as a rare example of talent, humility and hard work whose life journey will continue to inspire people across the country. Prashant Tamang, who shot to national fame after winning Indian Idol Season 3, passed away in New Delhi following a cardiac arrest. He was 43. His sudden death has sent a wave of grief across Sikkim and among his fans nationwide.
Before stepping into the world of music and films, Tamang served as a constable with the Kolkata Police. His transformation from a disciplined police officer to a celebrated singer and actor was described by the Chief Minister as an extraordinary and inspiring journey that reflected determination and self-belief. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said Tamang’s life showed how perseverance and dedication can help overcome challenges. He noted that Tamang’s success brought pride not only to his family but also to Sikkim, helping the small Himalayan state gain national recognition in the cultural and entertainment space.
The Chief Minister also remembered Tamang for his melodious voice, simple nature and strong emotional connection with his roots and people. He said the loss was deeply felt not just by his loved ones but by countless admirers who followed his work with affection and respect.
