India to launch AI-powered skill assistant with Meta’s support

India is set to revolutionize its skill development ecosystem with the launch of the Skill India Assistant (SIA), an advanced AI solution powered by Meta’s open-source Llama model. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, during a meeting with Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

SIA, to be integrated with the Skill India Digital Hub, aims to provide personalized learning experiences to millions of Indian youth. The AI assistant will offer tailored recommendations on skilling courses, training resources, and career development opportunities through interactive and engaging interfaces. The beta version of SIA is currently undergoing testing, with a public launch expected in February 2025.

The launch of SIA holds significant potential for Guwahati. With a growing young population and a focus on skill development, the AI assistant can play a crucial role in connecting aspiring professionals with relevant training programs, fostering entrepreneurship, and bridging the skills gap. By providing personalized guidance and access to information, SIA can empower individuals in Guwahati to enhance their employability and contribute to the region’s economic growth. The partnership between MSDE and Meta extends beyond SIA. NIESBUD, under the Ministry, is implementing programs to equip entrepreneurs with the skills to leverage Meta’s platforms, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, to build and grow their businesses. This initiative aims to empower entrepreneurs in Guwahati and across India to tap into new markets and enhance their digital capabilities.
