India strengthens Latin America ties with Ecuador, Bolivia and Cuba engagements

India is expanding its diplomatic and economic footprint in Latin America following Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita’s recent visits to Ecuador, Bolivia, and Cuba. The tour, which began on November 4 in Quito, Ecuador, highlighted India’s commitment to building deeper ties across sectors such as agriculture, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, trade, textiles, health, and pharmaceuticals.

During his stay in Ecuador, MoS Margherita inaugurated India’s resident Embassy in Quito alongside Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld and signed a MoU between India’s and Ecuador’s diplomatic training institutions. He also met President Daniel Noboa Azin to convey greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed avenues for bilateral collaboration.

In Bolivia, the Minister represented India at the inauguration of President Rodrigo Paz Pereira, inaugurated the new Chancery building of the Indian Embassy in La Paz, and opened India House, the official residence of India’s ambassador. Engagements with Bolivian business associations focused on boosting trade and investment in minerals, textiles, tourism, and pharmaceuticals. In Guwahati, these Latin America engagements are expected to open new trade avenues for local entrepreneurs, particularly in tea, handicrafts, and pharmaceutical products. Local traders are optimistic that enhanced India-Latin America ties could translate into export growth, increased investments, and technology-sharing opportunities benefiting Assam’s business community.
