India records lowest single day rise in Covid-19 infections in two months

91,702 new cases of Covid-19 reported in India, the lowest single-day rise in infections in around two months. This is the fourth day in a row when daily infections in India are below one lakh.

The total infection tally stands at 2,92,74,823, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday morning. The death toll from Covid-19 climbed to 3,63,079 with 3,403 new fatalities.

States like Tamil Nadu with 16,813 cases, Kerala with 14,424 cases, Maharashtra with 12,207 cases, Karnataka with 11,042 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 8,110 registered maximum cases.

As per updated data, 68.25 per cent of the new cases are reported from the above-mentioned five states, with Tamil Nadu alone responsible for 18.33 per cent of the new cases.

India’s recovery rate now stands at 94.93 per cent. A total of 1,34,580 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 2,77,90,073 across the country.

India, meanwhile, administered a total of 32,74,672 doses in the last 24 hours—taking the total tally of doses administered to 24,60,85,649.

India’s Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7; 30 lakh on August 23; 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28; 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29; 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
