Amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, the Indian government has initiated Operation Sindhu to safeguard its nationals. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that 110 Indian students, including 90 from Jammu & Kashmir, were successfully evacuated from northern Iran on June 17 and transported to Yerevan, Armenia via road, in a coordinated effort involving Indian missions in both Iran and Armenia.
The students arrived in New Delhi on the morning of June 19, where they were welcomed by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh. Expressing gratitude, the Indian government acknowledged the cooperation extended by the governments of Iran and Armenia in facilitating the evacuation process.
The MEA stated, “India accords the highest priority to the safety and security of its nationals abroad,” and added that further relocations from high-risk zones in Iran are underway. Indian citizens in both Iran and Israel have been advised to stay in close contact with Indian embassies.
In Guwahati, the development has drawn attention from families and student communities concerned about safety abroad. Travel agencies and education consultants in the city are witnessing increased queries related to international student safety and contingency plans, reflecting growing caution in Assam’s academic mobility trends.
